Day 12 in Turkey-It's a full house in these ovaries!!

Hi everyone!

We hope you all are doing well!  Today we saw the other doctor, because Dr. Arici is in the states teaching at Yale for the week. She is very different from Dr. Arici.  She is very abrupt and rough.  I was VERY sore after the exam.  She says we have lots of eggs, maybe even too much because she kept saying that, “Too much, too much,” but Dr. Arici didn't seem too concerned when we saw him on Friday.  At that time he said we should get about 15-20 eggs on the day of retrieval and he seemed to let on that that was a good thing.  It is definitely getting crowded in my ovaries.  My ovaries are completely packed with eggs/follicles.  My eggs are like the little bears in the bed, “I’m crowded! Roll over!”  I bet once the retrieval is done the rest will be saying, “We’re lonely!”  LOL  The drug protocol for tonight is that they are lowering my egg stimulating medicine from 300 IU to 262.5 IU.  I know very strange number. I have no clue where they get that, but that setting is labeled on my injectable med pen, so I guess it is used frequently.  I go back in the morning for blood work to check my estrogen levels, and then a sonogram.  We also emailed Dr. Arici just to see what he thought. We will keep you posted on what we find out tomorrow.

Below is a picture Glen took today while they were doing an ultrasound of one of my ovaries.  So this will be the very first picture of our future children!  LOL  Outlined in red is the ovary, all the yellow circles are the eggs.  Remember this is just 2-d so there are eggs hidden behind these that you can't see!

Today was a pretty relaxing day.  We spent most of it here at the hotel, but we did leave once with Ebenezer and Vida to help them sort out their cell phone issue and make sure they made it there and back ok.  They have a hard time understanding directions and so there’s no telling where the two them would have end up!  We took the shuttle to a mall nearby so they could register their phone.  Turkey is the only country in the entire world that makes you register your cell phone.  If you don’t register your cell phone within 10 days of being in the country, they shut your service off!!  We read up, and they say it is to help with terrorism.  I guess they think if you are in Turkey for more than 10 days you are probably up to no good!  LOL  I wonder if they think that about us?  So the cell phone thing was a real debacle, and Ebenezer ended up just buying a new phone here in Turkey because it was cheaper that way.  The reason we came along, is because neither Vida, Ebenezer, or the Turkish people speak English very clearly or well. So it’s like the blind leading the blind.  Glen and I came along to help with the communication side of things. Oh, and Ebnezer is hard of hearing, so that doesn’t help! It seems the Turkish people understand us better, since we don’t have any kind of accent that might make the words sound differently.

We found out today that he is at least 70 and she’s 31.  I guess love has no age limit in Ghana.

Their malls here are very unique in the fact that they have grocery stores in them.  The really big mall that we went to over the weekend had a Home Depot in it.  Well a Turkish version that is.  So while we were at the mall, we were able to pick up a few snack items. Today, I looked for peanut butter, and it could not be found. L

We basically just eat two meals a day, so these snack items usually equate to be our lunch.  We fill up at the free breakfast, which as we described is quite different from our cling to your bones kind of breakfast here in the states.  Then we eat dinner in the cafeteria, which are very small portions. I think both of us have lost weight since we got here.  Which is a good thing, very few times do you go on a vacation and lose weight.  We laugh that it’s no wonder there isn’t much obesity here because the food here just ain’t that great! LOL Oh…and when we go to the mall, we get a kick out of how there is always a huge line at the Burger King, KFC, and McDonald’s but hardly anyone at the Turkish stands.  We rest our case, American food is just better, of course not always better for you!

I finished my book, Water for Elephants.  It was really good!  I would recommend it to anyone. It’s not chick lit.  Speaking of chick lit, I did start a new book, Best Friends Forever.  I was looking for it in paperback in the states right before we left, and I found it the other day in one of the book stores here. It was amazing I found it because their English book section consisted of maybe 1,000 books max! Glen is still work on A Time to Kill, but he’s liking it.  A while back at Half Price Books, we found a bunch of John Grisham books for a $1 a piece so we stocked up!

Well I guess that’s about it for us!  Thank you all for your prayers and support.  We are going to leave you all with another mystery picture. There are some strange looking things over here! ;)

First: I can't imaging what the first gadget was and this could be a hair dryer, I have no idea.

I am glad that you like your doctor, too bad this one isn't as warm and friendly. I don't know why they all can't be that way. As long as she is good at what she does that is the important thing.

I am glad that the two of you can have all this uninterupted time together. Enjoy!

Love you bunches! The other mom

Wow, you guys have been busy since I last checked in here. I'm glad you have so many eggs that are growing nicely. I now know I will never go to Turkey because I cannot pee in a hole in the ground. That's a deal breaker. Ha ha! By the way I saw the video just fine of the boy dancing.
