ICSI=It's a procedure in which they fertilize the egg by injecting the sperm into the egg.
Sperm Aspiration=where they take a needle and extract the sperm from the testicle.
ER=Egg Retrieval
ET=Embryo Transfer
HCG=Pregnancy Hormone
Sticky Vibes=positive thoughts that the embryos stick!
BFP=Big Fat Positive (meaning your pregnant!)
BFN=Big Fat Negative
Follicles=Eggs that are growing
Blastocyst=an embryo that has reached the 5 day stage of growth. It should be around 70-100 cells by this stage.
5 day transfer=they will transfer the embryos five days after the egg retrieval.
Beta=Blood Pregnancy test
Lupron= 1st injectable med I start off with. It keeps me from ovulating all the eggs that I am growing. It also suppresses all my hormones so they can manipulate them as needed. I will continue on this until right before egg retrieval.
Gonal-F=An injection med that will cause my eggs to grow. I will start this after being on the Lupron for two weeks. In which, I will be doing both Gonal-F & Lupron.
HCG Trigger Shot=this shot will be given when my eggs are ready to be retrieved. This shot helps my eggs to fully mature so when they retrieve them they are completely mature and able to fertilize. Approx. 34 hours after this shot is administered they will retrieve my eggs.
Progesterone Shot=I will begin these injections the evening after the egg retrieval. These will keep my uterine lining nice and fluffy so the embryo can implant and it will help me sustain the pregnancy once they do implant.
I'm married to the most wonderful, loving, patient, kind, and giving husband. After eight years of teaching elementary music, I quit to embark on a journey toward motherhood. My husband and I traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, in September 2010 to under go a cycle of IVF in hopes of conceiving our first child together. We thought for sure it would work, but unfortunately it did not. It was one of the most devastating things we have ever experienced. At first we didn't know if we even wanted to try IVF again, but after much thought and saving we have decided to go at it again. In June, we under went our second IVF attempt. For IVF #2, we used the Dallas branch of the Sher Institute of Reproductive Medicine. We found out on June 27 that we were finally PREGNANT! Our baby is due March 5!
